Woning DG, Nazareth
Woning DG is a redeveloped notary’s house on the edge of the town centre of the Nazareth municipality, designed by Vlaminck Van Wetter architects. The redevelopment of the project involved restoring the interior and exterior of the existing main building and replacing the notary wing with a contemporary extension. The first floor houses a medical practice.
The complex is on the heritage list and is part of the cultural heritage of the residents of Nazareth. The volume of this stately residence includes a symmetrical main building with a classic, sloped roof and a small extension in the form of the former notary’s office. The front garden, sheltered by an enormous white acacia, features a small brick garden pavilion, which has also been added to the Immovable Heritage inventory.
The high, glass façades (profile series: Janisol) of the new building connect the exceptional front garden and the spacious back garden to the residence. The leaves of the white acacia filter out the southern sunlight, keeping the place cool and pleasant in summer. The original chiselled concrete plinth at the bottom of the contemporary extension was retained, thus uniting the old and the new façade. At the back, the new extension sits on concrete stairs. The two doors (which type of doors?) open onto the back garden.
