A hundred-year-old shipyard at the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam-Noord was transformed into restaurant pavilion IJVER.
An industrial look characterises both the interior and exterior of the building. The exterior walls are clad in hot-rolled steel. H. Baars made windows and doors for the façade openings using the slim Jansen Art 15 and Jansen Arte profiles. These were welded without finish – the welds remain visible – and coated in a clear varnish.
The supporting structure was designed in such a way that the monumental welding floor remained unaffected. This welding floor was originally used for ship parts that were built inside and outside of the shipyard.
